Modeling and forecasting life expectancy in India: A systematic approach

Abstract

In this study, the autoregressive integrated moving average (ARIMA) models were used to fit yearly life expectancy data collected from the official website of the World Bank. The results show a steady growth of life expectancy at birth for males, females and the total population during 2017-2030. Moreover, this study also attempted to examine the risk factors associated with life expectancy at birth in India. The results of the multiple linear regression showed that the employment rate, school enrollment rate, and healthcare expenditure were significant risk factors associated with life expectancy at birth for males, females and the total population.
